Quellaveco is located in the Moquegua region and is primarily operated by Anglo American Quellaveco S.A., with the participation of Ajani S.A.C., Obrascon Huarte Lain S.A., and Enaex Perú S.A.C. The project includes the construction and operation of the Cortadera tailings dam, as well as infrastructure for concentrate and water management. It is developed in a high-altitude environment, characterized by sensitive geotechnical and environmental conditions.
In this context, a series of specialized services and studies were carried out to ensure the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of the operation, as detailed below:
- Hydraulic and operational infrastructure engineering: Detailed engineering was developed for water storage ponds, surplus material dumps, and emergency copper concentrate storage yards, optimizing plant safety and operational continuity.
- Permitting and regulatory compliance management: Preparation of water use permits (infiltration, contact, springs, and tailings testing) and mining permits (ITM, authorizations, and concessions), ensuring regulatory compliance for the project.
- Construction quality assurance (CQA/QC): Supervision and quality control of metal structure fabrication, as well as topographic and construction control at the Cortadera Tailings Dam, ensuring compliance with design specifications.
- Technical testing and parameter validation: Execution of specialized tests, including ABBA services, to ensure reliability of technical parameters in engineering and construction.
- Specialized geophysical investigations: Studies to determine the natural frequency of the rock mass, providing key information for structural safety.
- Environmental and water resources studies: Execution of limnology, bathymetry, and aquatic resource assessments, in compliance with environmental commitments and applicable regulations.
- Mine closure consulting: Consulting services for closure, including standards analysis, geotechnical monitoring, and preparation of periodic technical reports.
