San Rafael

Client: Minsur S.A.

Puno, Perú

San Rafael is recognized as the leading tin-producing mine in South America and the fourth worldwide. The project is located in the Puno region, Peru, in the eastern Andes mountain range, at a high altitude of 4,500 meters above sea level. This strategic operation represents an important mining center for the production of this critical mineral.

In this context, a series of specialized services and studies were developed, aimed at ensuring the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of the operation, as detailed below:

  • Specialized geotechnical and geomechanical studies: Evaluation of foundations, stability of dams, lagoons, and storage facilities, crack analysis, and geomechanical characterization of tunnels and critical infrastructure.
  • Applied geophysical services: Execution of electrical geophysical studies for subsurface investigation and support in the design and evaluation of dams and tailings storage facilities.
  • Engineering design and detail: Development and updating of engineering for dams, lagoons, drainage systems, spillways, buttresses, dewatering systems, and pipeline networks.
  • Water resource management and assurance: Design of pumping systems, evaluation of water availability, hydraulic channels, and solutions to optimize water management in mining operations.
  • Geotechnical monitoring and record engineering: Implementation, monitoring, analysis, and interpretation of instrumentation (including piezometers) for continuous control of dams and lagoons.
  • Feasibility studies and alternative evaluation: Technical-economic analysis of hydraulic systems, channels, tailings storage facilities, and infrastructure solutions.
  • Optimization and review of existing engineering: Review of structural and process designs, engineering updates, and performance improvement of operational infrastructure.
  • Comprehensive technical support: Specialized support for operation, maintenance, and decision-making in hydraulic and geotechnical infrastructure.
