Pucamarca

Client: Minsur S.A.

Tacna, Perú

Pucamarca, located in Tacna, is an open-pit deposit with significant gold reserves. Its development has been made possible through complex mining infrastructure, including leach pads, solution ponds, waste rock dumps, and processing plants. The operation employs efficient extraction processes and maintains high standards in environmental management and safety. Additionally, it maintains an active commitment to local communities through dialogue and training programs, while responsibly advancing its mine closure plan and life extension.

In this context, a series of specialized services and studies were carried out to ensure the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of the operation, as detailed below:

  • Geotechnical studies and material characterization: Investigations were conducted for leach pads, waste dumps, open pits, and foundations (tanks, weighbridges, furnaces), including laboratory testing, stability analysis, infiltration studies, and material behavior assessment during operation and closure.
  • Pad, waste dump, and pit engineering: Prefeasibility, feasibility, and detailed engineering studies were developed for expansions and new components, including slope design, buttresses, hydraulic systems, and optimization of capacity and safety.
  • Supervision and quality assurance (CQA/QA): Construction management and quality control were carried out for civil works, geosynthetics, pipelines, subdrain systems, and earthworks, ensuring compliance with technical requirements, schedules, and HSE standards.
  • Geotechnical monitoring and performance: Monitoring of design performance during construction, operation, and closure, including instrumentation, risk analysis, and technical reporting.
  • Geoelectrical studies and leak detection: Execution of resistivity testing and specialized methods to verify geomembrane integrity in pads and ponds.
  • Technical support and contract management: Engineering review, preparation of bidding documents, evaluation of proposals, and technical support throughout contracting processes.
  • Water and hydrogeological management: Development of water balances, hydrogeological modeling, and solute transport analysis, optimizing operational performance and environmental safety.
  • Optimization and regulatory compliance: Engineering updates, design optimization, and control of waste rock disposal, including resolution of regulatory observations (ITS/ITM) and compliance with applicable regulations.
