APPLICATIONS OF GEOPHYSICAL RESEARCH IN THE FIELD OF MINING
Webinar that will explain how electrical and seismic geophysical investigations contribute to subsoil research and are complemented by other disciplines such as Geotechnical and Geological Engineering, among others, in order to exceed or complement the results obtained from specific tests for ground exploration such as drilling, pits or other direct research, with the aim of increasing the effectiveness of engineering studies both in terms of time and cost. The presentation has two parts. In the first part, it will be explained how the electrical geophysical tests by means of the emission of electric current allow to characterize the terrain and contribute to providing solutions to the different engineering projects developed by the mining units, such as the identification of wet or saturated areas in the tailings dams. identification of cavities in the pits, among others. And in the second part, the applications of seismic geophysical tests will be explained to characterize the terrain through the velocity profiles of the P wave (Vp) and the S wave (Vs), tests that allow estimating the compactness or rigidity of the materials present. in each study area.
