Shahuindo is an open-pit mining operation dedicated to gold extraction, located at approximately 2,900 meters above sea level in the Cajamarca region, Peru. This project is owned by Tahoe Resources, which operates through its Peruvian subsidiary, Shahuindo S.A.C. The particularity of this operation lies in its metallurgical process based on heap leaching, which requires specialized infrastructure including leach pads, solution ponds, waste dumps, and water management systems.
In this context, a series of specialized services and studies were developed, aimed at ensuring the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of the operation, as detailed below:
- Engineering design and detail for pads and storage facilities: Development of basic, feasibility, and detailed engineering for leach pads, waste material deposits (WRDs), dumps, stockpiles, and associated works, including expansions and phase optimization.
- Geotechnical and stability studies: Evaluation and design of pit slopes, pads, and storage facilities, numerical modeling, infiltration analysis, physical stability, and specialized geotechnical support for operation and closure.
- Solution and hydraulic systems management: Design of ponds (PLS, PME), drainage systems, subdrainage, channels, pumping and conveyance lines for solutions, including surface water management and infiltration control.
- Geotechnical monitoring and record engineering (EoR): Implementation, monitoring, and analysis of instrumentation, stability control, and continuous technical support for pads, pits, and critical storage facilities.
- Supervision, CQA/CQC, and MQA: Quality assurance and quality control in construction, installation of geosynthetics, earthworks, and geomembrane manufacturing, ensuring compliance with technical standards.
- Geophysical services and leak detection: Electrical tomography studies and geo-electrical leak detection in geomembranes for integrity control and operational optimization.
- Field investigations and laboratory testing: Execution of drilling, geotechnical testing, and ore testing, as well as interpretation of results to support design and engineering.
- Technical support and permitting management: Comprehensive engineering support, preparation of technical deliverables, design optimization, and support in environmental and operational permitting processes.
