1. Project Overview

The project was developed in the Fortín de Piedra Hydrocarbon Concession Area, located in the province of Neuquén. The closest locality is Añelo, located 19 km northeast of the area, while the city of Neuquén is approximately 90 km to the southeast.

In this context, Anddes was engaged to develop the design of a groundwater monitoring well network for different production facilities within the concession area. This task included both the preliminary environmental analysis and the field studies required to establish an appropriate monitoring network.

2. Project Challenges

The development of the project involved technical challenges related to the hydrogeological characterization of the terrain in an environment of high environmental sensitivity and intensive activity in the hydrocarbon sector. In addition, the design of the network had to adapt to the operational characteristics of each facility, ensuring adequate coverage and representativeness without interfering with ongoing operations.

3. Our Approach and Solutions

Anddes’ work began with the preparation of Phase I and Phase II environmental characterization studies, which made it possible to assess the initial conditions of the site. Subsequently, vertical electrical soundings (VES) were carried out as a geophysical tool to define the subsurface structure and determine the most suitable locations for monitoring points.

Based on these studies, the technical design of the monitoring network was developed, defining the strategic location of the groundwater monitoring wells at each evaluated facility, including tank batteries, processing plants, and hazardous waste storage areas. This network will allow continuous monitoring of hydrogeological conditions and early detection of potential environmental impact sources.

4. Results Achieved

The groundwater monitoring well network designed by Anddes represents a key tool for the continuous evaluation of the environmental performance of the production area. Through systematic monitoring, potential alterations in the groundwater system can be detected early and corrective measures can be implemented if necessary. This technical solution strengthens the project’s environmental management system and reinforces its long-term viability.
